Tile repairs and regrouting
A few cracked or loose tiles replaced, old grout redone on splashbacks, walls and floors, and old silicone replaced around showers and baths. Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, charged by time, small jobs only.
How it’s priced
Charged by time, at our painting and repair rates
One person comes with the grout saw, adhesive, grout and cleaning gear. You pay $139 for the first hour on a weekday, which includes travel within Zone A, then $19 for each 15 minutes. The rates are the same in all three cities and are listed on our prices page.
You supply the replacement tiles, or we buy matching ones at cost. Tile adhesive has to set before the new grout goes in. If a repair needs a second visit to finish, we’ll tell you before we start and put it in your written quote.
We confirm the price in writing by SMS, WhatsApp or email before the job. If we find more damage once the old grout or tile is out, we stop, show you and re-quote before carrying on.
What we fix
Small tile jobs
Put a few jobs on one list, such as a splashback to regrout and a cracked floor tile, and we’ll do them in the same visit.
Cracked or loose tiles
A few tiles lifted and replaced. Old tiles can be hard to match, so check whether you have spares before you book.
Bathrooms and laundries
Regrouting, odd tiles and resealing: old silicone cut out around a shower recess, bath or basin and replaced with new. We don’t touch the waterproofing under the tiles, and new silicone isn’t a leak repair. If water is getting behind the tiles, that’s a waterproofing job for a licensed tradesperson.
Licence limits
Which tiling jobs we can take in each state
We only take tile repairs below each state’s limit. The limit applies to the whole job, and we don’t split a bigger job into smaller bookings to get under it.
Sydney (NSW)
Wall and floor tiling worth more than $5,000, labour and materials including GST, needs a contractor licence. In NSW that trade also covers waterproofing wet areas, which we don’t do. We keep tile repairs under the limit.
Brisbane (QLD)
Tiling worth more than $3,300 needs a QBCC licence. The value is what a licensed contractor would reasonably charge for the whole job, including labour, GST and all the materials, even tiles you buy yourself. We keep tile repairs well within that.
Melbourne (VIC)
Tiling on its own doesn’t need building registration. A job that combines trades and costs more than $10,000 needs a registered builder, as does work that needs a building permit. We keep every job under that.
Retiling a bathroom, kitchen or floor? We’ll tell you straight away and suggest you book a licensed tradesperson, or a registered builder in Victoria. Check their licence or registration on your state’s public register before work starts.
Tiling jobs we don’t take
- Waterproofing, leaking showers and shower bases. Resealing only replaces the silicone on the joints; it doesn’t fix a leak
- Retiling whole walls, floors, bathrooms or kitchens
- Rows of cracked tiles, which can mean the floor or wall underneath is moving. Have a builder look first
- Drilling or cutting old sheeting behind tiles that might contain asbestos. Get it tested first
- Pools, spas and outdoor paving

Choose the jobs and how many of each to see a price range, worked out from the same rates as the price box above. It won’t show a price above $4,000 in Sydney, $4,000 in Melbourne or $2,000 in Brisbane. Jobs that size are close to the licence limits, so we check them with you first.

Tile repair questions
How much does regrouting cost?
We charge by time: $139 for the first hour on a weekday, then $19 for each 15 minutes. Regrouting up to about 2 m², such as a kitchen splashback, usually comes to about $158–$215 on a weekday in Zone A. All prices include GST, and we confirm your total in writing before the job.
Can you fix my leaking shower?
No. A leaking shower usually means the waterproofing under the tiles has failed, and that needs a licensed tradesperson. New grout or silicone on top won’t stop the leak.
Does a tiler need a licence?
It depends on the state and the size of the job. In NSW, wall and floor tiling worth more than $5,000 (labour and materials, including GST) needs a contractor licence. In Queensland, it’s more than $3,300, and the job needs a QBCC licence. In Victoria, tiling on its own doesn’t need registration, but a job combining trades that costs more than $10,000 needs a registered builder. We only take small repairs below these limits.
Can you find tiles to match mine?
We can’t promise a match. Spare tiles left over from the build are the most likely match, so check the garage or shed first. If you don’t have any, send us a photo of a tile and we’ll look for a close match before the job, at cost with the receipt.
How soon can I use the shower or walk on the floor?
It depends on the grout and adhesive. We’ll tell you how long to wait before you leave water on it or walk on it.
