How it’s priced
Charged by time, with travel in the first hour
One handyman comes to you with the tools for the job. You pay for the first hour, which includes travel within Zone A, then for each 15 minutes after that. The rates are the same in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and the full list is on our prices page.
Time is rounded up to the next 15 minutes. A job that takes 1 hour and 20 minutes is charged as the first hour plus two 15-minute blocks.
Zone A is within 20 km of the CBD and Zone B is 20 to 40 km. Further out, we quote in writing.
Before the job, we confirm the rate and an estimated total in writing by SMS, WhatsApp or email. You pay for the time actually worked at that rate. If the job turns out different from what you described, we stop, show you and re-quote before carrying on.
What we do
Small jobs we can take care of
Put several on one list and we’ll do them in the same visit.
Doors that stick or won’t latch
We tighten or adjust hinges and the strike plate so the door closes properly. A door that needs planing or rehanging takes longer, so mention it when you ask for a quote.
Handles and knobs
Internal door handles, cupboard handles and knobs changed or tightened. Bring the new ones, or ask us to buy them.
Door stops
Door stops fitted to protect your walls, or replaced where an old one has pulled out of the plasterboard.
Flyscreens
Small repairs, such as replacing torn mesh or refitting a screen that has come out of its track. New mesh is charged at cost, with the receipt.
Tall furniture anchored
Bookcases, wardrobes and chests of drawers fixed to the wall with an anti-tip strap or bracket.
Hanging and mounting
TVs, shelves, mirrors, pictures, curtain rods and blinds, level and fixed into the right part of the wall.
Flat pack assembly
Beds, desks, drawers and wardrobes put together from the instructions, on their own or with other jobs.
Jobs we don’t take
Some work has to be done by a licensed tradesperson or a licensed or registered builder. We don’t do it, and we won’t pretend otherwise.
- Electrical work, including moving or adding power points, lights and ceiling fans
- Plumbing, gas fitting and waterproofing in bathrooms, laundries and other wet areas
- Air-conditioning installs and regassing (these need a refrigerant handling licence, known as ARCtick, and an electrician)
- Structural work and renovations
- Lock changes and security systems
- Residential building work over the state licence or registration limit: more than $5,000 in NSW, $3,300 in Queensland or $10,000 in Victoria (labour, materials and GST included; in Queensland, that includes materials you supply yourself, valued at what a licensed contractor would charge); in Victoria, also any work that needs a building permit, whatever the value. The limit applies to the whole job, and we don’t split a job into smaller bookings to get under it.

Moving week is when small jobs pile up. Send us your list and a few photos, and we’ll price the whole visit.
Before you move out

- Shelves, brackets and curtain rods you put up taken down
- Small dents in plasterboard patched
- Loose handles, hinges and door stops tightened or replaced
- Flyscreens refitted or the mesh replaced
- Beds and tables taken apart, ready for the move

- Flat pack assembled and tall pieces anchored to the wall

Renting? Check your lease and get your agent’s or landlord’s OK before we drill new holes or patch walls. We can’t tell you what your final inspection will accept.
Materials
We only charge for materials you ask us to buy
Most small jobs use things you already have: the new handles, the flat pack, the TV bracket or the blind. We bring the tools.
- If you’d like us to buy something, we agree it with you before we do.
- You pay what we paid, with a copy of the receipt. No mark-up.
- If we can price it before the job, such as a bracket you’ve picked out, it goes into your written quote.
- Materials count towards the job total, including for the licence limits.

Handyman questions
How much does a handyman cost?
On weekdays it’s $139 for the first hour, then $23 for each 15 minutes after that. On Saturdays it’s $159 for the first hour, then $27 for each 15 minutes. Travel within Zone A is included, Zone B adds $40 per visit, and jobs more than 40 km from the CBD are quoted in writing. All prices include GST.
I only have one small job. Is it worth booking?
The first hour is the minimum charge, so a 20-minute job costs the same as a 60-minute one. Adding a few small jobs to the same visit, such as a door stop, a loose handle and a couple of pictures, makes better use of that hour.
Can you fix a dripping tap or replace a light switch?
No. We don’t do plumbing, gas or electrical work of any size. Those jobs need a licensed tradesperson. We’re happy to do the other small jobs on your list.
Can you change the locks?
No. We don’t change locks, deadlocks or security hardware, so please use a locksmith. We can swap internal door handles and cupboard knobs.
What’s the biggest job you’ll take on?
Small jobs only. Residential building work over $5,000 in NSW, $3,300 in Queensland or $10,000 in Victoria (labour, materials and GST included) needs a licensed or registered builder, so we don’t take it on. We won’t split a bigger job to get under the limit.
Do you supply materials?
Only if you ask us to. We charge what we paid, with the receipt, and if we can price it before the job it goes into your written quote.
Can you do these jobs on the day of my move?
Yes. If you book a move with us, the same crew can take apart and rebuild beds, assemble flat pack and hang things at your new place as part of the same booking. Tell us when you ask for a quote so we allow the time.
