How it’s priced
Charged by time, with travel in the first hour
You pay $109 for the first hour, which includes travel within Zone A, then $17 for each 15 minutes. Same price on Saturdays. Mowing and a hedge trim in the same visit share one first hour. The rates are the same in all three cities and are listed on our prices page.
Green waste goes in your green bin first. If there’s more, we take it to a green waste drop-off and pass on the drop-off fee at cost, with the receipt. We estimate that fee in your written quote.
We confirm the price in writing by SMS, WhatsApp or email before the job. If the garden needs more work than the photos showed, we stop, show you and re-quote before carrying on.
What we do
Garden upkeep, one visit at a time
Handy before an inspection, a sale, moving in or moving out, or when the garden has got away from you.
Hedges and shrubs
Hedges and shrubs trimmed and shaped, where we can reach them safely from the ground or a small platform ladder, and away from power lines.
Weeding and tidy-ups
Beds weeded by hand, shrubs pruned, leaves raked and paths swept.
Green waste taken away
Clippings, branches and leaves loaded and taken to a green waste drop-off. Garden waste only.
Licences
Garden upkeep, not landscaping
The state building licence rules cover structural landscaping, not garden upkeep such as mowing, weeding, pruning and hedge trimming. We stick to upkeep and don’t do structural landscaping at any price.
Sydney (NSW)
Structural landscaping, such as retaining walls, fences, paving, decks, pergolas and ponds, worth more than $5,000 (labour and materials, including GST) needs a contractor licence.
Brisbane (QLD)
Structural landscaping, such as decks, fences, pergolas, retaining walls and paving, worth more than $3,300 (labour, materials and GST included, even materials you supply) needs a QBCC licence.
Melbourne (VIC)
Landscaping, paving, retaining walls and fencing done as part of building or renovating a home count as domestic building work. Over $10,000, that needs a registered builder.
Planning a retaining wall, new paving, a fence or a deck? Book a licensed tradesperson, or a registered builder in Victoria, and check their licence or registration on your state’s public register before work starts.
Garden jobs we don’t take
- Structural landscaping: retaining walls, paving, driveways, fences, decks, pergolas and ponds
- Tree removal, lopping or climbing. Tree work can need council approval, so use an arborist
- Trimming anything near overhead power lines, including the service line to the house. That needs an authorised contractor or your electricity network
- Spraying weedkiller or pesticides. We weed by hand
- Garden lighting, pumps and anything electrical, and irrigation connected to the water supply
- Soil, rubble, rubbish or anything that might contain asbestos in the green waste load

Gardening questions
How much does a garden tidy-up cost?
We charge by time: $109 for the first hour, then $17 for each 15 minutes, the same on weekdays and Saturdays. Mowing and edging a lawn of up to about 150 m² usually comes to about $109, and a mow plus a hedge trim about $194–$279, in Zone A. Green waste drop-off fees are extra, at cost. All prices include GST, and we confirm your total in writing before the job.
Do you need a licence for gardening?
Not for garden upkeep. Mowing, weeding, pruning and hedge trimming don’t come under the state building licence rules. Structural landscaping is different: in NSW it needs a contractor licence over $5,000, in Queensland a QBCC licence over $3,300, and in Victoria it can need a registered builder. We don’t do structural landscaping.
Can you take the green waste away?
Yes. We fill your green bin first, then take the rest in our van to a green waste drop-off. You pay for the time and the drop-off fee at cost, with the receipt. We only take garden waste.
Can you cut down a tree?
No. Tree removal and big pruning jobs need an arborist, and tree work can need council approval. We trim hedges and shrubs we can reach safely.
